Freedom, empathy and respect

I love that in the United States of America, we have freedom of speech. I even love it that we are free to say or do dumb things. I usually appreciate the times that people do dumb things because I know my turn is just around the corner and if I am patient with them, they might be patient with me.

However, it saddens me when people say or do things to make other people feel badly about who they are. Larry H Miller's reason for yanking 'Brokeback Mountain' from his movie theatre in Sandy, UT is a great, recent example. As far as I know, LHM pulled the film after finding out that it covers 20 years in the lives of two "gay cowboys." If I were a gay cowboy I would feel a sting and some anger towards LHM's disrespect. But it would be short-lived because I know that prejudiced people are just lacking education and experience.

Of all the people in the world, I love empathetic, respectful people best of all.
